Schöneicher-Rüdersdorfer Straßenbahn

Around 25 kilometres east of central Berlin, at the Friedrichshagen stop on the S3 S-Bahn line, lies the terminus of a highly unique interurban tramway. At the very next S-Bahn stop, you can also find route 87.

The operator Schöneicher-Rüdersdorfer Straßenbahn GmbH runs this service, route 88, which connects the aforementioned station with the towns of Schöneiche and the Alt Rüdersdorf neighbourhood in the municipality of Rüdersdorf.

While the line itself is incredibly scenic, the main draw for a visit lies in its rolling stock. Back in 2018, the tram fleet consisted of the following:

• 4 Düwag GT6 trams acquired from the Heidelberg tram network, built between 1964 and 1973.
• 3 Tatra KT4DNF trams acquired from the Cottbus tram network, built between 1987 and 1990.

In the first and second photographs, we can see different Düwag GT6 models, including one that has been converted into a works car. The first shows it departing Friedrichshagen, while the second captures it at the Schöneiche depot.

In the third photograph, a Tatra KT4DNF is seen on the double-track section, pulling away from the Schöneiche stop.
