Woltersdorf Tramway

Woltersdorf Tramway

About 30 km east of Berlin's city center, at the Rahnsdorf stop on line S3 of the S-Bahn, we find the terminal for a Historic Interurban Tram. At the adjacent S-Bahn stop we have line 88.

The Woltersdorfer Straßenbahn company operates this line, number 87, which connects the station mentioned with the town of Woltersdorf.

The line itself is short but very beautiful. Single-track with 6 crossing points (including terminals). It has not been modified since its inauguration in 1913.

The route crosses a long forest in a straight line under a tunnel of vegetation and the village of Woltersdorf to the terminal of the Schleuse (Exclusa) line, located on a beautiful square where we can enjoy two connected lakes by an exclusion system. Above it there is a pedestrian bridge that allows us to observe the excellent views. These lakes are the Bauersee and the Falkensee, belonging to the Löcknitz river.

In 2018, the tram fleet consists of:

  • 9  Gothawagen T57, construidos entre 1957 y 1961.
  • 1 Gothawagen T57, convertido a taller y con posibilidad de acoplarle pala quitanieves, procedente de la red BVG de Berlín.
  • 5 Vehículos históricos, utilizados en ocasiones especiales.

In the first photo we can see a Gothawagen T57, specifically number 32, stationed at the Schleuse terminal (exclusively).

In the second photo we see the same model, but in this case purchased from BVG and transformed into a Tranvía workshop and parked next to the garage.

In the third photo we can see a tail specimen, little after leaving the Rahnsdorf terminal, and venturing into the depths of the forest. In the background, a crossing point is faintly visible.

Scanned photos from negatives.
